Thought I'd throw out a few birds that I saw on the Wasco/Deschutes State
Recreation Area that were neato for me anyway.
The Wasco highlight was driving from Pine Grove to Rock Creek Reservoir via
Victor/White River Crossing/Smock Roads. GOLDEN EAGLE and 3 TOWNSEND'S
SOLTAIRES (more than doubling my lifetime views) they were spread out over
8-10 miles staying true to their namesake I guess. The regulars were there
too like LEWIS'S WOODPECKER, WESTERN BLUEBIRDS, etc.
I dropped by the Marina in The Dalles and saw a RED-NECKED GREBE which
tripped e-bird as rare.
Copying Bob's trip a couple of weekends ago the Deschutes River SRA
highlights for me were MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE, ROCK and CANYON WREN (2 pairs
each right around the corner from each other), BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, MOUNTAIN
CHICKADEE, etc. There was a sonic bombardment of WESTERN MEADOWLARK songs
that dazed me and almost drove me off the cliff to my watery doom because
they are trying to kill us or maybe just me, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet threw
out it's ruby crest in a murderous manner too. PACIFIC WREN also tripped
e-bird rare reports and seemed strange to hear them there but the sharp
ticks and long song were pretty unmistakable.
