I don’t think of the varied thrush as a seed eater, but since the big snowstorm
hit we’ve been observing one regularly, hanging out with the sparrows eating
millet scattered on the ground. Also, yesterday I briefly saw a hermit thrush
among the sparrows picking millet off the ground, but it left quickly and did
not return. I assume the varied thrush’s seed eating is because its usual food
sources are not available (although we have lots of snowberries available in
our yard). Any comments on this?
