Hi all, just retuned from a lovely evening with Bev Clark and others from
Portland and Eugene at the Tangent Eagle Roost. Here is the count (I didn’t
bother to separate out adults from subs):
4:40—36
4:50—40
5:11—49
5:21—64
5:27—79
We also had up to 10 Short-eared Owls hunting the fields. I’m not sure of the
exact number as I was counting eagles through the scope every time someone
spotted another owl so I lost track. There were also four or so Northern
Harriers still hunting and a couple Red-tail Hawks in the vicinity.
Earlier we enjoyed seeing the hundreds of Tundra Swans off American Drive.
There may have been some trumpeters but all we identified were tundra.
Altogether a spectacularly beautiful mid-valley late afternoon/evening with
gorgeous clouds and sunset light. And lovely to see lighter evenings.
Best of all, I forgot all about Malheur for a couple of hours. That was perhaps
the best part, a reminder to me that mother nature bats last……
Happy birding, all.
Maru
