Here on the south coast I am seeing or hearing a SWAINSON'S THRUSH
regularly. I found one at Bullard's Beach campground when we returned there
on May 9, in the same exact site in a closed camp loop where I photographed
one two years ago. This week we were back in the campground and one was
repeatedly giving its "whit" call in a different camp loop where we parked
for a couple of hours.
Out here at China Creek beach access, I hear them daily in the wooded areas
between the dunes and the road, and around the pond on the other side of
the road. A few days ago I heard their magical spiraling song from the
other side of the pond for the first time this season. Standing outside in
the beach access parking lot, I just heard one again, singing from the
wooded shoreline to the north. Always a treat!

p.s. Steve called me from where he was walking dogs out on Beach Loop Rd to
report about 15 more BLACK SWIFTS (about 8:30 am.) This time they were
flying slightly higher than yesterday, at maybe about 100'. The weather
today is mostly sunny at the moment with big puffy clouds. Winds were about
3 mph winds.

Here it is 19 May - have SWAINSON'S THRUSH ever arrived so late? I have
GREEN HERON, despite checking Commonwealth Lake where someone mentioned
they were regular and common.)
