Greetings OBOLites and COBOLers:
Janice Staats, Sophie Gonzalez, and I ran the Redmond-Tumalo winter raptor
survey on an overcast, but otherwise pleasant Veterans Day. We observed 7
species and 92 individual raptors over the 53-mile route.
Results:
Red-tailed Hawks 59
American Kestrel 16
Northern Harrier 2
Golden Eagle 4
Rough-legged Hawk 8
Merlin 1
Prairie Falcon 2
The route starts at the Redmond Sewage Treatment Plant, where we found:
Surf Scoter 1
Dunlin 3
Long-billed Dowitcher 25
Western Sandpiper 10
Killdeer 10
Mute Swan 1
W Meadowlark 75-100
in addition to more common seasonal birds and waterfowl.
