A couple of yeas ago, once we realized our son Cooper’s interest in birds was
not a passing fancy, we started taking family birding trips. These have
included long weekends to coincide with International Migratory Bird Day and
the birding events that go along with it. Two years ago, we went to the event
at Ladd Marsh and last year we went to the one in Leavenworth, WA. This year,
we were planning to go to the Harney County Migratory Bird Festival (it doesn’t
match up with IMBD, but that’s fine), but just discovered that’s not an option.
The current Malheur situation aside, the vast majority of the events at that
festival are only open to kids 10 and up. Cooper will be 8 in March, and thus
is eligible for so few of the options there as to not be worth the trip.
Does anyone have recommendations for a weekend bird festival in April or May
where the majority of events/field trips are open to kids?
