Today while working on the Ni-les'tun Unit of Bandon Marsh NWR I got a brief glimpse of a flock of approximately 20 peeps. It was a brief look at long distance and into the sun, but they were the right size for western sandpipers. On my back north to Newport I observed a flock of scoters at the same exact spot near Hwy 101 mile post 173 in Lane County. There were 80-90 surf scoters feeding in a tight flock in the surf literally within yards of where I saw a much bigger flock when I was in route to the shorebird festival last year. Love to know what lurks on the bottom there.
