Hi, Janet Lamberson saw two Semipalmated Sandpipers mixed in with about 40 Western Sandpipers today (June 30) near the LNG tank at Yaquina Bay. They were viewed close in with a spotting scope and had short (compared with the Westerns) sharply pointed bills and dark legs. They tended to stay together near, but not always with the Westerns." The Handbook of Oregon Birds (p. 95), the Birds of Oregon: A General Reference (p. 234), and Shorebirds of the Pacific Northwest (p. 245) give the earliest coastal fall record in Oregon as being of adults at Tillamook on 29 June 1986. Shorebirds of the Pacific Northwest gave the earliest coast fall record in the Pacific Northwest as 20 June 1989 in British Columbia.
