There were three Common Goldeneyes at the Scio Sewage Ponds today. Check
these ponds from the south side, on Gilkey Road:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/44%C2%B041'49.5%22N+122%C2%B051'09.0%22W/@
44.6971522,-122.855494,16z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0

The ponds can both be viewed from Gilkey, the dike between them runs
north-south, not east-west as the google map shows. I like to bring my
pickup and stand in the bed to scope the ponds, but it isn't unsatisfactory
standing by a car. You can't pull clear off the road, but there isn't much
traffic at all. Not that anyone would rush over for Common goldeneye, but if
you're in Scio, it doesn't hurt to take a look.

On the ECAS Winter Raptor Survey, Linn County Route 5, Crabtree Area there
were the following:

Red-tailed Hawks:           27

American Kestrels:          38

Northern Harriers:           4

Bald Eagles (adult):          6

Bald Eagles (imm):           5

Cooper's Hawk:                1

Barn Owl:                            1

I drove 67.5 miles in 6 hours, not counting time out for lunch, and looking
over the Scio Sewage Ponds.

The Barn Owl was at the Thackaberry Sheep Farm.

Good birding,

Jeff
