Greetings COBOLers and OBOLites,
My daughter and I took advantage of the sunny skies and light breezes on MLK
day to run the Redmond-Tumalo raptor route. We observed 131 raptors over 53
miles including:
Red-tailed Hawk 95
American Kestrel 12
Bald Eagle 3 sub-adults
Rough-legged Hawk 17
Prairie Falcon 1
Cooper's Hawk 1
Ferruginous Hawk 2
Raptors were definitely bunched up where the feeding must have been good. 20
or more birds were observed in 3 fields; another had 14. Pretty standard fair
elsewhere. Still water was frozen, so very low numbers of waterfowl along
route. Did enjoy a close-up of a juvenile and later an adult Northern Shrike
at close proximity and ideal light.
Good birding,
Mark
