I birded Sauvie's Island today with Steve and Susie Deagle. (I hadn't seen
Steve since I was four years old or so when he would visit our house to play
with my older brother.)
1 adult G. White-fronted Goose across road from the store.
7 Common Goldeneyes - Sturgeon Lake near Coon Point
2 Hooded Mergansers - Gilbert Slough
490 Sandhill Cranes (a fairly close count). That seems like a lot to me for
January. Was it Paul Sullivan who saw some migrating over McMinnville
yesterday?
Rentenaar Rd. raptors included:
1 immature Merlin
1 adult Red-shouldered Hawk
1 immature Sharp-shinned Hawk
As an early sign of spring, a Golden-crowned Sparrow started a few partial
songs.
3 Common Ravens in two widely separate locations.
