Christopher and I were in the backyard, enjoying the nice evening while studying for upcoming exams, when we noticed a fairly large buteo with long, pointed wings flying over. We grabbed binoculars and sure enough, it was a light SWAINSON'S HAWK. This was about 8:05pm and it was heading east northeast just south of Mt. Tabor. This was yard bird #108. While certainly not expected as our next yard bird, the weather conditions and timing are probably perfect. Seems like a good time to try for this species out at the Portland Airport, Troutdale area, or really any adequate grassy area. Enjoy the migration and nice weather, Adrian Hinkle
