I signed up for this list just a few days ago. So, this is my first post. I had
to chime in on this because I recently took these photos of what I believe to be
a hybrid sapsucker, near my home in Troy, OR. I read during sign up that you're
not supposed to put pictures on here, but I don't have a place on the web that I
want to put my pictures. Besides, one fellow attached a photo of a pied-billed
grebe with a sunfish (catch and release?), which I really enjoyed, and it came
through just fine. So, I'm going to attach these and see how it goes. They're
terrible pictures, but they very clearly show some strange markings. First
notice the almost complete lack of the large white wing patches. Secondly,
notice the black splotches throughout the head, neck and nape. Also, when I
first noticed the bird, I thought the black and white face stripes were
unusually bold. I hope this helps.
