Sorry, I have had several inquiries as to my location. I should have said
so in my first post. I live in the far South Eastern corner of Oregon on
Hwy 95. I only have two neighbors within about 10 miles.
There is a covey of Quail that eat with my Chickens each day and early in
the fall numbered about 80. A resident Harrier has whittled that number
down quite a bit, but they cope pretty well. There has been a young Coyote
that is Mousing and chasing the Quail as well. A migrating Prairie Falcon
female has taken up residence, primarily at the ranch across the road.
There are lots of Ducks, Geese and various water and ground birds there
along Crooked Creek that flows from there and across the Hwy and on down
below my house. The Quail take refuge in the Sage by the Creek, and the
Coyote runs through there trying to catch them. The Prairie has learned
that the birds that normally squats and hides when she flies over are not
able to do that with the Coyote, so She circles above and stoops at the
birds that the Coyote flushes. Being a falconer I find it pretty
entertaining.
