Yesterday, Saturday 1/9, I led my annual field trip to Lincoln County for
the Audubon Society of Portland. The weather was cold, but alternated sun
and light rain, so conditions were not that bad. We birded Boiler Bay,
Depoe Bay, NW 55th ST (Newport), South Beach State Park, the Marine Science
Center and the south jetty Yaquina Bay. We had 14 enthusiastic birders, all
of whom enjoyed the day and were fun to bird with.
Notable Birds:
Mountain Plover still present at South Beach with 10 Snowy Plovers and a
Sanderling
Mystery oriole at MSC (I am not sure anything I saw eliminating Bullock's
on this bird).
3 male Eurasian Wigeon.
4 Eared Grebes
Black Scoters at NW 55th; 1 female under the Yaquina Bay bridge.
1 Long-tailed Duck (female)
1 Barrow's Goldeneye (male right next to a male Common Goldeneye for a
great comparison)
