We saw the same thing in the parking lot at Fort Stevens Campground last August. The crossbills were so busy with the cones that they were ignoring persons walking only a couple of feet away. I saw Crossbills doing the same thing at South Fogarty Creek SP last August. I was quite surprised. The parking lot was pretty much paved with the cones. I think the Crossbills were cutting them off the branches, then retrieving them from the ground. The cones seem nearly as big as the birds. Lars Sent from my iPad
