Ring-necked Pheasants still nest at Baskett Slough NWR. I've stumbled
across a couple of nests in recent years. I don't think anyone is
deliberately augmenting that population.
Most other mid-valley locations that I'm aware of with pheasant activity
during nesting season (such as Finley NWR) are close enough to private
hunting clubs that it would be hard to rule out augmentation.
It's been years since I heard of any sightings of hens or young at E.E.
Wilson Wildlife Area (where only roosters are released, for the annual
fee pheasant hunt).
We used to see occasional "Szechuan" type pheasants around here,
suggesting that some of the birds released around the Camp Adair area
decades ago were still active in the gene pool. But I haven't seen one
of those in at least 10 years.
