I took a few folks out to Sauvie Island today.
The Wash was very active, but as usual most of the intriguing stuff is way out
there. An adult PARASITIC JAEGER was on the ground on the mudflats, then took
flight and disappeared to the north. A Merlin, a hunting Peregrine, 20+
Black-bellied Plovers, a large fishing flock of White Pelicans and 1000+ newly
arrived Cackling Geese were the other highlights. Greater White-fronted Geese
were all over as well, although not in large flocks.
At Round Lake, we found a SANDERLING and 3 Pectoral Sandpipers. The Narrows
yielded a Lesser Yellowlegs and 2 Red-necked Phalaropes.
Generally, shorebirds were hard to find. Migrating passerines even harder.
