Matt, I have been writing poetry all my life and it never occurred to me that
the word “sphyrapicus” could be used in a poem.

Permutations of Sphyrapicus
May require a double abacus
Before one ends another begins
Not one species concept wins
Dead horse? Guffah! I retort

For decades it has been this way
But few dared enter the murky fray
The whole lot of them do interbreed
Of that I think we all concede
So... (changing up this pattern of mine)
Must we draw these species lines
And put a bird on just one side?
If a bird looks like the both of them
Is it required that I decide?
