Hi OBOL folks
A late report on the OBA Bonney Butte field trip. A group of 10 OBA members
visited the Hawkwatch International HWI Bonney Butte site on Saturday September
15. We arrived about 9:30 and were greeted by HWI bander Caleb at the
trailhead, then Krista & Stephanie at the observation site. What a great crew.
They shared so many birds both spotting and with "in hand" ID comentary. Also,
we were lucky to meet up with Shawneen Finnegan and Dave Irons later in the
morning. We benefited from their spotting, ID comments and experience.
What a fun day highlighted with: NORTHERN GOSHAWK (dusting it up with a
Cooper’s Hawk!), PEREGRINE FALCON, MERLIN, several COOPER’S HAWK, several
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, GOLDEN EAGLE, BALD EAGLE, several OSPREY, and a nice
variety of passerines to boot. Did you know that CANADA JAYs love peanuts?
Thank you Hawkwatch International for hosting us! I recommend visiting the site
and learning from HWI. Up close and personal raptor experience are great!
