Jan and I drove south from Tillamook on Hway 101 this morning. Two flocks of
geese on the refuge north of the Little Nestucca River had no barnacle geese,
nor did a flock up the Little Nestucca River Road. The first two flocks
included quite a few Aleutian cackling geese. On the way down we saw a
red-shouldered hawk, and another one on the L. Nestuca River Rd. A young
peregrine was hunting over the refuge.
Another of the recently mentioned wandering bands of chestnut-backed
chickadees, about 25, flew past as we stood at the overlook south of the
refuge.
