In Washington State, there is a documented breeding record for Red Crossbill
for every month of the year. I'm sure the same is true for Oregon. If the cone
crop is good, they are ready to go pretty much regardless of season or weather.

On a field trip in early April at the John Scharff festival a few years ago
Rick Vetter led us to Idlewild Campground up in the woods north of Burns.
There was a good crust of snow on the ground. He showed us fledgling Red
Crossbills still dependent on their parents.

Hi,
On Feb. 1, Ed Backus had 4-5 red crossbills at his sunflower feeder
and shelf feeder all day. They included 4 males, 1 female, and 1 that
appeared to still be in juvenile plumage.
P. 604 of the Birds of Oregon: A General Reference states: "If seed
conditions are favorable, may nest late Dec to late Aug, and may have
as many as four broods annually (Adkisson 1996). ... Juvs may be
encountered in 10 mo of the year, Jan-Oct ..."
P. 530 of Sibley's Guide to Birds also indicates juvenile Red
Crossbills from January to September.
