I also had a Lewis Woodpecker sighting there, after 1991 I believe. The
situation was very similar
to what Tom saw. This was before such sightings were routinely reported
on OBOL so I reported it to Harry Nehls and it was on his weekly telephone
RBA. Perhaps it was
pre OBOL? I can't remember when OBOL started but I remember trying for
awhile to archive the
early postson floppy disks!

If there are a lot of dead standing trees from the Eagle Creek Fire left
standing, we may again have nearby nesting Lewis’ Woodpeckers in the Portland
area in the next few years. Long time Portland birders like Harry Nehls, Dave
Irons, and I remember when they were easy to see year around on Sauvie's Island
and near the Scappose Airport. I remember a few summer ones that flew over
Hwy. 26 between Portland and the Coast Range as well.
