Hello All, Today's bird song walk on Mt. Tabor in Portland was very good. There were good numbers of birds in most areas of the park. Notable were numbers of WESTERN TANAGERS and BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS. Also, W. WOOD-PEWEES and OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS are present in good numbers. TOWNSEND'S WARBLER numbers are still quite high as are BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS. Some of the below estimates are conservative. Also, I have not included every species we saw (commoner stuff like crows, etc.). Red-tailed Hawk- 1 Band-tailed Pigeon- 7 Red-breasted Sapsucker- 1 Olive-sided Flycatcher- 4 W. Wood-Pewee- 6 Swainson's Thrush- 2 heard by others VARIED THRUSH- 1, getting quite late Cassin's Vireo- 4 Warbling Vireo- 5 Yellow-rumped Warbler- 4 Black-throated Gray- 30+ Townsend's Warbler- 50+ Hermit Warbler- 1 Wilson's Warbler- 7 WESTERN TANAGER- 25+ BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK- 25+, 6 at my feeders before the walk Chipping Sparrow- 1Red Crossbill- 10 + Evening Grosbeak- 10 Throw in all the other birds and it added up to a very birdy morning. Good birding, Gerard Lillie Portland, OR
