Here we are in mid-November and, until today, I hadn't seen a Short-eared
Owl this year - anywhere in Oregon - even with trips to Malheur and other
likely places to see one.
This evening I went out to the McMinnville airport at 4:30 and sat to watch
the airfield as the sun set. In previous years I have come out to this same
spot in late fall (and after New Years) and found this species. I believe
they winter at the airfield.
At 4:50 I began to see raptors, but the first 3 appeared to be N. Harriers.
Finally, after 5, I got to see a Short-eared Owl flying over the airfield.
