Thanks for update. The only good thing I can think if is maybe more birders
will be at the P Ranch, those trees are very hard to bird but might pay big
dividends.
Glad to hear about the Benson Pond set-up.
Lots of reasons to be excited about end of May.

HI All,
I wanted to give everyone an update on Malheur HQ. Unfortunately, it will not
be open for some time due to security. The Department of the Interior is
sending its Security Assessment team to the refuge in June and based on that
will make recommendations to refuge leadership. It is unclear how long this
process will take but I know that everyone here at the refuge wants to get
back to business as usual. Safety for those who work here and those who visit
are a topmost priority. The refuge is still getting visits from militia
although there have been no confrontations other than verbal exchanges.
Benson Pond will be the focus of a work party this Saturday and will place a
couple of sitting benches in the area. They will also improve some of the
trails and the brick house will have a visitor log. The trees are very birdy
with the beginning wave of song birds arriving.
I know this is going to be a very different year for birding here but it's
still Malheur and fantastic in so many ways!
Cheers!
