Nice find on the Elegants John! It is getting close to the latest that
they have ever been reported in the county. And yes, yesterday was
fantastic weather- I was down in Curry, will post soon.

Have a good one all,

Hello All,

Joshua Little and I were on the dunes overlooking the mouth of the
Siltcoos at first light this morning and were treated to a fantastic show.
Half a dozen Humpback Whales were spy hopping, pectoral fin slapping and
performing incredible full breeches in front of us for an hour! During the
whale show, there was also a huge pod of what we think were Pacific
White-sided Dolphins a mile+ offshore. They were porpoising along, the full
width of a scope view, creating a churning flurry of white water with many
animals leaping completely out of the water. Oh, there are some birds too!
A few SOOTY SHEARWATERS along with a couple PINK-FOOTED were seen.
RED-THROATED LOONS and lower numbers of COMMON and PACIFIC LOONS streamed
by continuously for nearly two hours. The most dramatic scene of the
morning was watching two PEREGRINE FALCONS relentlessly chase a pelagic
BELTED KINGFISHER out to sea. A few MARBLED and two ANCIENT MURRELETS were
close enough to be identified. At Cape Arago Stat
e Park, Coos Co. four ELEGANT TERNS were feeding just outside Simpson
Reef. Another dozen ELEGANT TERNS were found roosting on the mud at low
tide with a large gull flock off Pigeon Point, north of Charleston on Coos
Bay. It was a gorgeous, tee-shirt weather November day on the coast! Joshua
can add anything I forgot.

Good Birding,
