I kept a complete list of bird species and got 21. My far from exhaustive notes
cover 23 plants and lichens, many of them completely new to me . There's no
part of nature more familiar to me than these lowland forests adjacent to
Corvallis,
so this was a very satisfying adventure indeed. Lars

Subject: [birding] Naturalist Adventure at Chip Ross Park
Hello,
It was a on-and-off rainy day with muddy trails but some nice early-spring
wildflowers. We were delighted to find some blooming Calypso Orchids
(Calypso bulbosa) and some Pacific Hounds-tongue (Cynoglossum grande).
There were some dense patches of Fawn lilies (Erythronium oregonum). In a
patch of open woods near the highest point of the park, we found a decent
patch of Silvercrown (Cacaliopsis nardosmia) emerging (not blooming). See
photos for some other wildflowers we encountered.
We heard a few songs of ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS and spotted a couple
squabbling. While on the forested trail on the NE side of the park, we
heard a few calls from a WESTERN SCREECH-OWL. Close the parking area we
heard some calls of WILD TURKEYS.
