Hello All, I walked a similar route this morning as yesterday, from the Royal Avenue parking area to the platform and south to the Barn Pond and back. A few new birds seen today were: Western Sandpiper - 5 adults in bright breeding plumage Bonaparte's Gull - 2 first-summer birds Forster's Tern - 1 seen feeding along southeast edge of the lake, returning to the same spot multiple times and descending out of sight behind a reed bed south of Tern Island. Could it possibly be nesting, not only west of the Cascades, but away from a colony? Watched the female AMERICAN AVOCET return to the nest and relieve the male of his incubation duties. The male quickly flew off and chased a third Avocet away from the nest area. Didn't see the fourth bird reported by Barry McKenzie earlier this week.
