I saw Wink's posting of early Purple Martins near Portland yesterday and
wondered when the Tenmile Lake birds in NE Coos arrived? They are normally
found the last few days of March there- traditionally the earliest location
in Oregon. I have been recovering from knee surgery so haven't been out in
over a month. Anyhow, early this morning my wife took me out to the north
spit for my morning walk. I was shocked to hear one or more PURPLE MARTINS
near the BLM boat ramp. They usually do not arrive at this location for
another 10 days to two weeks- looks like a really early year for them in
general. While I was out also heard:
Numerous singing ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS
Several singing each of- AUDUBON'S WARBLERS, COMMON YELLOWTHROATS and
PURPLE FINCHES.
Georgeous morning with Osprey on nest at end of road and a few VG and TREE
SWALLOWS zooming about overhead.
Good to be out again!
