I think Steve may be making a mistake at this point. There was a lot of
negative commentary on the ABA Rare Bird Facebook page after it was suggested
that the finder suppressed news of the sighting until he knew the bird was
gone. Adrian Hinkle and I tried to come to his defense, but I am not sure about
how successful we were. It got ridiculous enough that the moderator shut down
comments.
For those who feel compelled to contact Steve DeMoulin, please do not assume
that he intentionally suppressed this sighting for anything but reasonable
concerns. His main concern (rightfully) seems to be keeping his property from
being overrun by birders who might think that hanging out there is their best
chance to see the thrush.
In reality walking the neighborhood looking for flocks of feeding robins
probably offers the best chance to relocate this bird and doing so instead of
standing for hours in front of Steve’s house surely would improve your odds. I
know I won’t try to contact him.
