Howdy All,
Just saw the pic of the Red-bellied Woodpecker (Red-headeg WP has shown up in
Oregon - what's next!)..
A comment on the tree ID -- Red Alder looks like a better ID as Cottonwood
has a slightly different veining pattern on the leaf underside and a more
pronounced 'drip tip' on a slightly different leaf shape??

According to the latest on the Facebook thread, the photo is from August. So,
no need to get ready to chase, but yes it is know it was here at all. Someone
on FB asserted this would be only the second Oregon record, although I don't
know if that's true or not.

Kevin, it is well worth posting it on OBOL. Even if it was seen this summer,
it is a rare bird we otherwise would not have known about.

Yes, that's a good point. I think the poster on FB had no idea how much
interest this photo would generate and has gone to do normal Thanksgiving
things. I apologize in advance if this turns out to be a false alarm.

The picture has nothing but green leaves in it. I am guessing it wasn’t taken
recently. The bird is definitely a Red-bellied, though.

It doesn't look to have made it to eBird, but the Facebook Birding Oregon group
has a possible Red-bellied Woodpecker spotted in Cottage Grove
