After seeing Diane Pettey’s post that her and Daniel Farrar saw an adult C
YELLOWTHROAT at Millicoma Marsh on the eastside of Coos Bay I immediatelly
knew there were at least two since I have seen an immature/female looking
bird on multiple occasions.
Weather was perfect for our dog walk- I had full rain gear on but the sun
came out and it was 50F- balmy. Birds were very active. Next to the seed I
heard a yellowthroat and a loud Virginia Rail which might have come into
the seed if I had stayed longer (over the yrs they have come to seed
several times here). The HARRIS’S SPARROW came in after a while. There
were one or two Swamp and WT Sparrows among the crowd. I then continued out
to the end of the dead end trail (right at fork just past seed). Upon my
return to pond I heard two yellowthroats calling back and forth in the reed
canary grass behind the pond but over closer to the sewage treatment pond a
ways from the seed. I then went back to the seed spot and there was another
one calling there. So three yellowthroats at Millicoma-wow! There were a
couple other very vocal Virginia Rails in the pond area also.
Back near the parking area on the north end of the track there is a
blackberry patch- an OC WARBLER was calling away, I have heard/seen it
several times this winter so a good spot to check on a sunny morning.
Clouding up and starting to rain now- our timing was perfect this morning :
