We only had two WT Kites on the Port Orford CBC - numbers are definitely
down.
As for the TV, Terry Wahl had one at the family ranch on the 29th. I think
these are early northbound birds, they have been showing up earlier and
earlier every year the past decade on the south coast. Terry had one last
year (or earlier this year) on 5 Jan. We do have overwintering birds in the
Coquille Valley- the numbers drop in Dec and I know we have had at least
one reported on and off all Dec from Myrtle Point (Robyn and Don Henise)-
numbers are typically higher on the earlier Jan Coquille Valley CBC which
may include additional early arrivals joining the overwintering birds by
then? We'll see how the TV numbers are on next weekends Coquille Valley CBC.
