I did the Coos Bay mid-winter Bald Eagle route today. It is about 70 miles
but much of the habitat (half?) is pretty dense trees with no water in
sight, so it is nothing like a Willamette Valley count. Anyhow, I found 9
BALD EAGLES, 8 adults and one immature, which is about as many as I ever
find.
Other raptors included:
2- OSPREY
10- RED-TAILED HAWKS
3- NORTHERN HARRIERS
2- PEREGRINE FALCONS
3- RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS
3- AMERICAN KESTRELS
2- WHITE-TAILED KITES
1- COOPER'S HAWK
other birds of interest included:
3+ BROWN PELICANS
1- ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER
3+ WESTERN BLUEBIRDS
20- BUSHTITS (I didn't see any on the four CBCs I did this year!)
Merry New Bird!
