I had the same experience in my yard last week. I'd seen the Cooper's Hawk
hanging around the feeders in our yard but not seen any catches. I also
have/had? a pair of Band-tailed. But a few days later found pigeon feathers
everywhere and no body. Hmm

Around noon at our place (just east of the Merlin I-5 exit) today
(03-15-2016) an adult COOPER'S HAWK was feasting on a BAND-TAILED PIGEON on
the ground here.
Question, would think a Band-tail would be pretty heavy for a Cooper's Hawk
to fly into the yard with. There were Pigeon feathers everywhere; it must
have caught it at our place? Any one else know if a Cooper's could carry
off a Band-tail to a different location?
