Many of the birders who have reported them have had a lot of experience with
both species, and some likely with only Pink-footeds. The Black-venteds are
much more compact, with far shorter wings (even proportionally). Their flight
is more direct and done with faster wing beats. Often they have been seen in
direct comparison with Sooty Shearwaters, which are much bigger than the
Black-venteds, but clearly smaller than Pink-footeds.
