The average length of glacial advance in the Pleistocene has been 100 thousand
years. The average time of retreat(inter-glacial periods) is 10 thousand. We're
12 thousand years into the current retreat. Forsman is not questioning the
efficacy of the program, just pointing out the disparity between Nature's
timescale and the track record of political systems. The Norwegian Constitution
has survived 207 years. It was to some extent a self conscious model of the USA
Constitution which l guess is 232 years old. Supposedly all other constutions
have had shorter lives. The Seljuks ran the Ottoman Empire for about 600 years,
