Last Saturday I went out to Yaquina Head near Newport to see if I could observe eagle predation at the common murre breeding colonies there. I only had to wait 37 minutes before an adult bald eagle approaching high from the SE then landed in the snag NE of the lighthouse. The eagle was harassed by gulls from the time it approached until it departed the area. After perching in the snag for 13 minutes the eagle launch directly at Colony Rock and dipped below the top of the rock on the north side as some murres scrambled to leave the rock. A few seconds after disappearing the eagle reappeared at the west end of the rock with an adult murre that it apparently captured without landing on the rock. The eagle proceeded to the east at low altitude with its still kicking prize. A few photos athttp://www.flickr.com/photos/24707703@N06/sets/72157633798450093/ Roy Sent from my iPad
