Well! Am I glad that Pat Corkill and I went birding today!
First we saw a rough legged hawk near Costco, on Business 101 between Ft
Clatsop Rd and the zipline place. It was there at dawn and also 1pm. It's a
light morph.
Then we saw a prairie falcon across the road from the entrance to the Warrenton
mitigation ponds. What?--you say? Yep. We watched it for nearly half an hour.
It was quite close to us and we had a 60X scope. We saw it fly, preen a wing
and stretch a leg. We had 5 ID books with us, and even though we have only seen
about two between both of us in our lives before, we are quite certain. Prairie
falcon!
Then we saw 5 ruddy ducks on Wireless Rd by the boatworks. They were there
again at 2pm.
We were looking for red-shouldered hawks and I finally saw one on the way home
in the tree behind Utzinger's Hardware. And it makes me want to sing!
Oh what a buteo morning,Oh what a buteo day. I've got a buteo
feelingEverything's going my way!
You know what else was out by the Warrenton mitigation ponds? A turkey vulture.
Absolutely cray-cray.
What a great day!
