Hi all,
The Antone CBC won't be happening this year. There are just not
enough volunteers signed up at this point to be sure that we
can field teams in all of the key sectors.
Unfortunately we can't wait for last-minute volunteers on this
one due to the need to work out logistics and access to private
ranch lands in advance.
So ... if you were thinking about joining this one but just hadn't
gotten around to contacting me: Please consider helping on
some of the other counts in central Oregon instead!
The compilers for the Sisters and Tygh Valley CBCs have both
mentioned that they're short-handed. Those counts are relatively
easy to get to from western Oregon.
Summer Lake (scheduled for Tuesday) is a little farther but puts
you in range of the Hart Mountain CBC (scheduled for Wednesday,
Dec 18) which is also looking thinner on volunteers than usual.
Lodging is available for volunteers in the Hart Mtn refuge bunk
house for Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
The Sheldon CBC (on Sheldon NWR just across the line into Nevada)
will be on Friday, Dec 20, and also offers free lodging for
volunteers.
If you join both the Hart Mountain and Sheldon counts, you'll
have four nights of comfortable lodging with an easy travel day
in between, including time to visit with the Juniper Titmice
around Adel, or just soak in the local hot springs.
