I forwarded Rusty's earlier email to my brother in San Jose. Here is his
reply. (Big Sur is near Monterey CA) Bob OBrien
As to the the Oceanside report, I think that the coast gets much more than
its share. Nothing like a Pacific Ocean to concentrate a northward mass of
migrating land birds. I've been camping on the Big Sur coast at Julia
Pfeiffer Burns park in the Spring, with a constant flow of Rufous heading
north quickly whizzing by. As I didn't have a feeder; they weren't
stopping.

Yesterday's epic hummingbird barnstorming is over. My sister's Oceanside

The show built for 3 days to yesterday's crescendo, and now all is calm.
Leaves me wondering what impact feeders have on survival rates of these
migrants. Might a Rufous make it to British Columbia that would otherwise
have perished trying?
Not answerable, I know.
