Actually it struck me as a fine innovation. Strix varia is more striped than
barred while S. occidentalis is more barred than spotted. The Bard Owl
is perhaps our most vocal, and its sibling species the Tawny Owl the best
known owl in the works of Shalespeare.

Sounds like a good name for a Barn Owl x Barred Owl hybrid. If there could
be such a thing.

Hi all,
Sorry for the late report. I went to Finley NWR on the afternoon of the
14th. Highlights included; 3 Trumpeter Swans at Cabell marsh, a couple of
flyover Horned Larks, 2 G Yellowlegs and a Long-billed Dowitcher along
Finley road. However, the best birding was at McFadden Marsh. As it got
close to dusk geese started to fly in; 37 Snows at least 16,000 Cacklers
and an immature Ross's that was found in the morning. Other birds of note
at McFadden were a Trumpeter Swan, a Herring Gull and a Bard Owl.
Good Birding!
