The 1st Applegate/Williams raptor survey was accomplished today (12-29-13) Distance traveled: 37.9 miles; Survey time: 3.5 hours Weather: mostly overcast Results: Red-tailed Hawk - 18 American Kestrel - 3 Bald Eagle 2 (adult) Red-shouldered Hawk - 2 Golden Eagle - 2 For those birders that are also coin collectors, it was a Double, double-eagle day. Two Goldens was a treat. It wasn't birds that made the biggest impression on me, but how dry the Applegate Valley is. About all of the small farm ponds are either dry, or close to it,. Have seen more water in late summer in the Applegate River then right now...it's pretty low. Dennis (north of Grants Pass)
