SUBJECT: No-Cost Web Protection Services Available to SLTT Elections Websites

The Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) would like to
inform members about no-cost web protection services available to state, local,
tribal, and territorial (SLTT) governments operating websites that provide or
store election-related information, such as voter registration, polling place
lookups, and election night reporting. As the 2018 mid-term election season
approaches, the MS-ISAC recommends all SLTT governments eligible to participate
take advantage of these no-cost services provided by Cloudflare and Google.

Cloudflare’s Athenian Project and Google’s Protect Your Election initiative
offer a variety of services for securing election websites. These services
include distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack protection and web
application firewalls (WAF), as well as additional tools for protection from
phishing, SQL Injection (SQLi), cross-site scripting (XSS), and other malicious
activity. In particular, DDoS protection and WAFs are two key components for
securing the public facing web infrastructure of elections agencies. To
encourage the adoption of these products, and answer any questions, the MS-ISAC
will host a webcast with representatives from Cloudflare and Google to
demonstrate the products and services available to elections community members.
