Hi, Everyone –

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to join all of you at OAGITM last week. As some of
you may know, our Office has been pushing a public broadband agenda for
some time now. We had an opening this Session with HB 4023
<https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2018R1/Measures/Overview/HB4023> and have
gone all-in. In short, we’re proposing to make more than 2,200 miles of
dark fiber available to all “public bodies,” including schools, libraries,
local governments, and tribes.

Needless to say, this has not been popular with CenturyLink among others,
who’ve done everything they can to block our amendments (a “compromise”
amendment is being drafted as we speak). While we’ve gotten the Association
of Oregon Counties, League of Oregon Cities and the City of Eugene in
support, we need all the help we can get to make this a reality. Anything
you can do to bring your leadership and Government Affairs on board would
be greatly appreciated.

change). Additionally, I’ve attached a recent presentation we gave to
Regional Solutions outlining our approach.
