Yes this is a requirement, even our smallest med rooms have a sink in them. We 
have some omnicells that are in the locked med room and others that are in a 
hallway or corridor. It depends on the amount of traffic that will be utilizing 
the machine and the space that we had to work with.

Our Labor and Delivery unit does not have a sink, but their med room is really 
a small closet with shelves and in very close proximity to the labor suites 
which are equipped with a sink.  We have never had any issues when it came to 
surveys in that area.

Would you be so kind as to put this question out to the other Directors?

Is it a requirement, law, or standard by Joint Commission, CMS, DOH or any 
other surveying body that a medication room on a nursing unit be supplied with 
a sink?

I have received conflicting answers on this from different sources.

We are installing Pyxis in our med rooms and there is no space for a sink also.
