Hi all, While approachingd to help the new translator, I deeply realized that most of them are highly confused how to begin the work. Even some one asked me how to accept the invitation. They repeatedly asked me whether a translation manual exists or not. On my reference to the NVDA page of translation, they responded that it more abstract and is like a hint to the practising translator. I had realized that at least one chapter about the translation of NVDA in users Guideline is very much essential and will be fruitful. Even a common user will be familiar about the translation procedures and consequently, may be motivated to contribute in updating of not maintained languages or start the localization in new one. I had drafted the 'Translation ' chapter thinking it to include in the main guideline. I request you all to review and comment the attached draft written in t2t format and let us reach in a conclusion. A separate translation guideline is also an alternate option. I request Mr James to think this subject seriously, it may lead nvda to be more familiar to all language community in future. -- Him Prasad Gautam Kathmandu, Nepal

The purpose of this guideline is to inform the preliminary steps and provide a hint of using Poedit for translating messages and interfaces Just a primary steps of the process is given below: 1. The %d is a numeric and the %s is a string variable. - Alphabet n followed by a backslash symbol (\n). This indicates beginning of a new line. Repeat the same process for another message. Save the file before closing it. Press control + S or save it from file menu. Press control + down/Up arrow to move from one translated message to another translated message. ++ Testing of Translation ++ Perform the following task. 1. Create the nvda.mo file. (it is automatically created by poedit while saving the translated nvda.po file) 1. Open the NVDA installed Directory. Generally it is C:\Program files 2. Open the folder NVDA\Locale. 3. Here you will find many files with two letter names which represent different languages that are available in running NVDA. - Create a new folder. - Name it as your language code. If you do not know what is the language code then visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_639-1) - open the newly created folder. -Again Create a folder named as Lc_Messages - - open the folder Lc_Messages. 5. Inside the folder Lc_Messages, paste the nvda.mo file. 6. Close the explorer dialog. 7. Go to NVDA menu, preferences - general setting sub menu. 8.
