Through a virtual interactive web-based community, student ambassadors interact with current interns and NASA staff to discuss issues of mutual interest and seek advice in overcoming obstacles, either in school or on internship. In addition to the benefits of networking, NASA Student Ambassadors will have opportunity to participate in NASA events, and be apprised of employment opportunities and educational experiences. The net result of these interactions and opportunities will be increased skill development and greater likelihood of successfully completing their STEM degree and entering the workforce. Becoming a NASA Student Ambassador is an honor. NASA Center project managers will nominate as "student ambassadors" top interns who have participated in various NASA Education projects and have a broad understanding of the NASA mission. These students will represent universities and colleges from across the Nation. Student Ambassadors will be asked to lead and facilitate discussions on current NASA events and research programs via instant messenger, message boards and real-time polls. In addition, the NASA Student Ambassadors Virtual Community aims to keep these talented students in the human capital pipeline by fostering productive relationships between NASA Student Ambassadors and current NASA staff. NSAVC Members must be: Current college interns/fellows or recent graduate STEM professionals NASA enthusiasts and Advocate The NASA Student Ambassadors will serve a one-year renewable term, receive no compensation for their services but will receive per diem, travel and lodging when selected to attend NASA events. The Virtual Community was unveiled in early 2009 by NASA Headquarters. Click on the map at the following url to see students by states. http://intern.nasa.gov/external/map.php
