Quick Facts

Closes on: 15 April, 2015
Must selected applying as a "student"

APPLICATION SELECTION IS COMPETITIVE AND NOT BASED ON PERVIOUS ATTENDANCE OR
FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS.

Essays: Essays should NOT be written by the parent or guardian. The GEMS
staff reserves the right to deny an application if they believe the parent or
guardian has written the essay. We strongly encourage parents and guardians to
allow their child to creatively write / draw (more information is provided on
the application itself) about why they would like to be in GEMS. This essay
helps to serve as a grouping tool and allows the GEMS staff to differentiate
instruction when necessary. It is encouraged that students write their essays
in google docs or Microsoft word and then copy and paste that into the
application, this will prevent any frustration caused by "timing out."

Timing out: Applications will "time out" after approximately 30 minutes of
being open. Please utilize the save button at the top and bottom of the
application to prevent information from being lost.
Classes: Classes are based on CURRENT grade level. Students should not apply
for the exact same class as the previous year if they were accepted. Applicants
that were selected into a previous class WILL NOT be reselected for that class.
To view the 2015 Class Offerings please view the attached brochure.

To Apply: Visit www.usaeop.com/apply<http://www.usaeop.com/apply> : under the
GEMS program title, click Fort Detrick, MD (MRMC-HQ). This will take you to the
GEMS application.

Teacher Recommendation form: This is downloaded as part of the application
online. Don't forget to download and save it. Please give teachers as much time
as possible to complete this form. They are busy professionals! Lastly, please
do not call or email the GEMS staff to ask if we have received a teacher
recommendation form. Please confer with the teacher whom your child has asked
to complete it. If they tell you they have sent it, please believe them. You
trusted them enough to give a glowing review of your student; you should also
trust their word that they sent it in.

Completing your application: The final button that you select will be a
finish/submit button. Once this button has been pressed (it will say
processing your registration) it will trigger an automatic email (wait at least
24 hours) stating that you have registered. It will go to the email address
that you used to apply. Please check your SPAM folders for the email as well.

For Specific Student Application Directions please see attached

Thank-you and good luck,
